ULTRA, day 1

So the ULTRA emerging art director's art fair at Spiral in Omotesando opened on 10/28. Above is Jeffrey, our "ULTRA" director. The gallery directors were all supposed to be young (there was an age cut off) and the idea was to have fresh young galleries come together for a hip show. For our gallery to participate, we entered as gallery.sora./Taka Ishii Gallery under Jeffrey's name with gallery.sora. artists. Unfortunately, it was slapped together really haphazardly and didn't have the feel at all of a good art fair (not like I've ever been to one, but jesus, I'm used to talking like I have). I'll show more pictures later. Some of the galleries put so much stuff out it was like a craft fair, which is not the way to win over serious cash on essentially really expensive luxury goods.
For the opening, we all went together from Suitengumae to meet up with Jeffrey and Yamaguchi-san.

L->R: Take Ninagawa (gallery director), Misako (director of Misako & Rosen and Jeffrey's wife), Jeffrey, Nina Beier (artist)

Yamaguchi-san (Nahoko)

L->R: Kikutake-san, Cody, and Me in a cheesy picture we took in front of the "glamorous background"
After wine and champagne at the opening, Jeffrey really wanted to go out to izakaya to celebrate Nina's arrival and Tamura Naoko's works in the show.

Yamaguchi Ai, represented stateside by Gabriel Ritter
(her work is beautiful by the way)
Anyway, we made it back by the last train after the izakaya in Omotesando (where Nina happened to do a residency for a few months, so it's like her hometown in Japan)

Nina and Alida were quite a sight on the platform. Especially with Alida's tipsiness and Germanness.
